From Prototype to Production: Building Enterprise AI with Forward-Deployed Engineers

How do you turn a real business problem into an AI solution that can work in an enterprise? This 90-minute session introduces the Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) role and shows how business needs, AI engineering and enterprise integration come together. Through live coding, participants see an AI-powered workflow built, tested against realistic cases, and examined through the lens of production readiness.

What you will take away

  • What a Forward-Deployed Engineer does, and how the role differs from traditional software and AI engineering.
  • How an engineer translates a business problem into a scoped AI solution and architecture.
  • A live-coded enterprise AI workflow that connects an LLM with data, tools and business logic.
  • Why testing, failure handling, security, reliability and evaluation matter beyond a working prototype.
The 90 minutes
  1. The rise of the FDE. What a Forward-Deployed Engineer is, why the role is emerging, and why enterprises need engineers who can connect business problems to working technology.
  2. The FDE mindset. How FDEs discover the real problem, clarify requirements, define constraints, and identify what success should look like.
  3. Designing the solution. A concise walkthrough of the architecture: model, enterprise data, tools or APIs, workflow, and guardrails.
  4. Live coding: build an enterprise AI workflow. A focused business workflow agent, such as a procurement assistant that checks policy and supporting information through a mock enterprise API, then recommends a next step.
  5. Test, find failures, improve. Realistic test cases, including missing information or a policy exception. Examine the output, identify failure modes, and demonstrate an improvement.
  6. From prototype to production. What real deployment needs: access control, privacy, reliability, observability, evaluation, human approval, and integration.
  7. Key takeaways. The FDE mindset and the capabilities required to build useful enterprise AI.

Who should attend: fresh engineering graduates, software developers, AI/ML engineers, data scientists, technology leaders, and enterprise decision-makers, including CIOs, CTOs and Chief Data Officers.

In-company programs

Everything it takes to make AI skills stick

A workshop teaches a person. An AI-ready organisation needs the right people trained in the right things, on real work, with proof that it worked. An in-company engagement covers all eight parts.

🔎

Training-need identification

We interview business heads, map each role to the AI skills it now needs and baseline current skills. You get a skills-gap report by role and function.

💡

Use-case discovery

Working sessions with each function to find where AI saves time, cost or risk. Every idea is scored and the shortlist gets an owner.

How an engagement runs

Six steps from AI-curious to AI-ready

Each step ends with something you can hold us to.

  1. Diagnose the needInterviews with sponsors and business heads, a role-to-skill map and a baseline skills assessment on Assessfy. You get: a skills-gap report by role and function
  2. Discover the use casesSessions with each function to list where AI can help, scored on value, feasibility, data and risk. You get: a ranked use-case shortlist with an owner for each
  3. Design the learning pathsRole-based paths sequenced to your stack and built around the shortlisted use cases, so every lab uses a problem your people recognise. You get: a curriculum and schedule signed off by your sponsor
  4. Train on-siteLive sessions and labs by practitioner faculty at your offices. Live online, hybrid or a Mumbai campus immersion where that suits better. You get: people who have built something in every session
  5. Apply on the jobBetween sessions, participants use what they learned on their own work. Teams take a use case to a working pilot with faculty mentoring. You get: working pilots, demonstrated to leadership
  6. Measure and sustainReassessment against the baseline, reports for managers and leadership, and a 90-day follow-up on what shipped. Learning continues on the platform. You get: evidence of the skills lift, and the next plan

Start with the diagnosis

Most engagements begin with steps one and two. You see the gaps and the use cases before you commit to a training budget.

Competency assessment & development

Skills you can measure, role by role

Every role gets a target level. We assess where each person is, train to the gap, and assess again.

Level 1 · Aware

Knows what AI can and cannot do

Understands the basics, the risks and the company's rules, and uses approved tools safely. The floor for every employee.

Level 2 · Fluent

Uses AI in daily work

Gets reliable results from AI assistants in their own role, checks the output, and knows when not to use it. The target for managers and domain teams.

Level 3 · Builder

Builds with AI for the team

Creates analyses, automations, agents or applications that others rely on. The target for analysts and engineers.

Level 4 · Leader

Directs AI for the business

Selects and funds use cases, manages risk and holds teams to outcomes. The target for function heads and CXOs.

What L&D and managers receive

  • A baseline of current skills by role and function
  • A skills report for each participant, assessed on Assessfy
  • A development plan for each person against their target level
  • A cohort report for leadership, and a 90-day follow-up on what shipped
  • A certificate from Aegis School of Data Science & AI for participants who meet the standard
Assessed, not attended

Assessfy verifies skills per module with proctored, evidence-backed assessments. You get a report on what each person can do, not a participation list.

Making the organisation AI-ready

What AI-ready looks like

Training is one of six things that have to be true. We work on all six, and tell you honestly which one is holding you back.

1. Leadership

A named sponsor, an AI agenda tied to business goals, and a budget.

2. Use cases

A ranked portfolio with owners and numbers, not a list of ideas.

3. People

Every role knows what AI changes in its work, and has the skills for it.

4. Data & tools

The data is reachable, and approved tools are in people's hands.

5. Governance

Clear rules on privacy, security, quality and human review, mapped to India's DPDP Act and the EU AI Act.

6. Ways of working

Teams redesign their processes around AI and measure the result.

AI Executive Education FAQ

What is Aegis AI Executive Education?

Aegis AI Executive Education is the corporate arm of Aegis School of Data Science & AI. It makes organisations AI-ready in three ways: workshops that individuals can join or companies can sponsor seats in, in-company AI training programs built around the organisation's own needs and use cases, and AI Centres of Excellence. The AI CXO Academy is its leadership practice for boards, CEOs and CXOs.

Can I enrol on my own, or sponsor employees for a workshop?

Both. Workshops are open to individuals and to employees nominated by their company. Tell us the workshop and the number of seats, and a program director replies within one business day. Any workshop can also run as a private cohort for your company alone.

Where can I attend an Aegis workshop next?

Aegis is hosting workshops at Bharat AI Innovation 2026 at the World Trade Center, Mumbai: a CXO's guide to strategic AI decision-making by Dr. Vinay Kulkarni, a live-coding session on building enterprise AI with Forward-Deployed Engineers by Dr. Ashish Tendulkar of Google AI, a hands-on Automatic Speech Recognition workshop by Dr. Parijat Shukla, and a closed-door CXO roundtable on building the enterprise AI workforce. Every workshop carries a completion certificate from Aegis School of Data Science & AI. Register at bharataiinnovation.com.

What does an in-company AI training program include?

A training-need diagnosis by role, use-case discovery sessions with each function, role-based training delivered on-site, on-the-job projects where teams take a real use case to a working pilot, competency assessment before and after on Assessfy, CXO coaching, and a learning platform that holds the paths, recordings, assessments and certificates.

Do you train on-site at our offices?

Yes. On-site delivery at your offices is the default for in-company programs. We also deliver live online, hybrid, or as an immersion at the Aegis campus in Mumbai. Cohorts run from 10 to 200 participants.

How do you identify what training we need?

We interview sponsors and business heads, map each role to the AI skills it now needs, and baseline current skills with an assessment on Assessfy. The result is a skills-gap report by role and function, which decides who is trained in what and in which order.

How do you help us find AI use cases?

We run working sessions with each function to list where AI could save time, cost or risk. Every idea is scored on business value, feasibility, data availability and risk, and the shortlist is given an owner. Those use cases then become the projects participants work on during training.

What is on-the-job training in an AI program?

Participants apply each module to their own work between sessions, and teams take a shortlisted use case from idea to a working pilot with faculty mentoring and office hours. The program ends with pilots demonstrated to leadership rather than a classroom test alone.

How do you measure whether the training worked?

By skills, not attendance. Each participant is assessed against a role-based competency framework at the start and again at the end, through Assessfy. Managers receive a skills report per participant, leadership receives a cohort report, and we follow up after 90 days on what shipped.

Which learning platform do you use?

Programs run on Aegis's own platforms: mUniCampus for learning and Assessfy for assessment and certification. Learning paths, session recordings, materials, assessments and certificates sit in one place for participants and for L&D.
